Over the past 12 weeks I have learned a lot of things from being in this digital photography class. When I first came into this class I was worried that I would not take any good photos and I was also worried because I did not have any friends In this class. Within the first week I was intimidated by some of the other classmates that were more experienced than me. In our first photo shooting assignment we were tasked to take 25 pictures of the same thing. When Mr.Bush first said that, I thought that that sounded like a lot. That assignment was to test our creativity as the more photos you take, the more creative they will be. As you can see the picture on the left is one of my first shots that I shot and it took till picture 30 to get a "better one". I think it is funny to look back and to think that I was worried about taking 25 photos because now I take over 100 sometimes. Ever since the beginning of the class I was not the best at working with photoshop. It would take me a long while to find one tool to use, and applying that tool was even harder. I now don't know all of photoshop but I can definitely get around more easier than before. The hardest photoshop assignment I did was our "car retouch photo". This was where we used a picture that was already taken by someone else and we edited it to improve its overall look. I also like to think of my best and worst photo that I take. I looked back through all my photos and decided which one had the best overall look to it, and same with my worst, figuring to what look just plain terrible. These are my best and worst photos of all of the final photos for my assignment. So the "worst" one wasn't my worst out of all of them, and just the worst out of the final ones.

This week I shot an event, which is a hockey game in Canada where I traveled for my fathers ceremony. In this I learned how to raise my ISO and balance it out because of the high amount of white. I also used a high shutterspeed so I could get the players in motion. ISO 1600, 85mm, f/5.3, 1/160 sec
In this assignment we were tasked to take a photo where the subject in the photo is in focus but the background is blurry. What I learned/ what I was taught was using the shutter speed in a slower way to get the blurry background. with this task of creating motion blur I struggled with setting the focus box to align with the person when it can near. ISO 1600, 24mm, f/ 11, 1/30 sec
For this weeks assignment I decided to shoot 'food'. In this assignment I spent a couple of hours with my father in the kitchen, cooking two different things. We were cooking for dinner and desert, for dinner, spaghetti and meatballs and for desert, warm chocolate melting cake. During this shot I shoot 312 photos, which was a lot to go through and find the best ones. In the process I struggled with the lighting as, as the day went on the natural lighting was disappearing and it got very dark. I also struggled with the focus. ISO 100, 30mm, f/4.0, 1/5 sec While editing I brought down the exposure ever so slightly as I really wanted the viewer to focus in on it. I also brought the shadows down so there was a very distinct contrast happening.
In this assignment we were tasked to take a few photos of the same image with a person moving in different spots. In photoshop we would then stitch them together to form one photo that looks like it has the same person in it multiple times. While doing this I learned to stitch them together to do it and I learned more about what photoshop can do. I had some trouble with the focus and having them stay still. While editing I darkened the lighter areas around the floor which brought more attention to the subject. ISO 200, 18mm, f/3.5, 0.5 sec
In this assignment we were assigned to take a picture of the school and edit in photoshop to add a scary affect to it. I learned to work with photoshop and use levels and masking to layer images. In this picture I had a Scooby doo theme and tried to make this hallway dark and mysterious.
This week for photo assignment five I decided to shoot light painting. I did this by going into my unfinished basement and used a string of orange halloween lights, a tea light, and two flashlights, and my friend Vita. During this assignment I learned how to use my camera to do light painting. What I struggled with was the settings to get the perfect look for them. I still wanted to see the background slightly since I thought it looked a little spooky (Since halloween is in two days). While editing all of these I darkened the background a little as I still wanted you to see the "creepy" looking backdrop. ISO 100, 18mm, F/20, 25.0 sec While editing all of these I darkened the background a little as I still wanted you to see the "creepy" looking backdrop. I touched the shadows and light and messed with the balance of the bright orange, the ghost, and the "boo!".
For my fourth assignment, this week I decided to shoot animals. On Sunday it had stopped raining and I thought it would be a great opportunity to get outside and take some pictures of the geese/ducks and my dogs. While doing this assignment I realized that not everything will go as planned and you have to be very patient. When doing this assignment I learned that Not everything will go your way but some of the pictures that I thought weren't too good, ended up being my favorite ones. ISO 250, 62mm, f/7.1, 1/40sec While in the editing process I did not do too much editing, as I thought the raw version was not that bad. I kept the edits to a minimum and only messed with the exposure and the white/black balance.
This week I decided to shoot photos in black and white. Over the weekend I was looking at some Halloween decorations and thought they might look cool in black and white. While doing this I had to think about the color contrasts and how it would "pop" in B&W. I learned to really think about the lighting and balancing all the photos out. ISO 250, 30mm, f/4.0, 1/13 sec While in the editing process I turned it into back and white, I lowered the exposure slightly so I could get the texture of the cloth to show, I brought up the highlights and darkened the shadows. Also while editing there was a small piece of tape on the table, that I didn't notice was there until I was editing, and I photoshopped it out.
